When shipping outside the EU you must provide customs information. ShipCelero detects this automatically and presents the customs form as an extra step in the shipment wizard.

When is customs required?

A customs declaration is required for shipments going outside the European Union customs territory. Common destinations that require customs include the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Norway, and Switzerland.

Norway is part of the EEA but not the EU customs union — customs declarations are required for shipments to Norway.

CN22 or CN23 — chosen automatically

ShipCelero picks the correct form for you and shows it in the customs step title:

  • CN22 — used when the total declared value is at most 300 SDR (an international reference currency; the threshold is converted to your shipment currency automatically), the package weighs at most 2 kg, and the declaration fits within 3 item rows
  • CN22 (multiple pages) — used when more than 3 item rows are needed but value and weight are still within CN22 limits, for services that support it
  • CN23 — used above the value or weight thresholds, or when the service cannot use a multi-page CN22

The wizard explains why a particular form was chosen. If the package exceeds the selected service's weight limit, you are warned before booking.

What you need to declare

  • Shipment type — Goods, Return, Commercial Sample, Document, Gift, or Other
  • Item description — a clear, plain-language description of the contents (e.g. "Cotton T-shirt" not "Clothing")
  • Quantity — number of units
  • Value — customs value in the declaration currency
  • Weight — weight of the items in kg
  • HS code — a 6-digit international product classification code (see below)
  • Country of origin — where the product was manufactured

Your sender customs identifiers (EORI, IOSS, VOEC) are pre-filled from Settings → Account and can be edited per shipment.

What is an HS code?

The Harmonized System (HS) code is a 6-digit international code used by customs authorities worldwide to classify traded goods. For example, cotton T-shirts are 6109.10.

You can look up HS codes at your national customs authority or through online tariff search tools. For Denmark, use toldskat.dk.

Auto-filling the declaration

If you regularly ship the same products, add them to Products with their HS codes and values — saved products appear as suggestions while you type and fill in all customs fields automatically. For Shopify orders, customs data stored on your Shopify products is reused as well.
